What is a Martingale Collar? The main difference between a martingale collar and a regular collar is that the martingale tightens as a dog pulls. The purpose is not to choke the dog, but to prevent it from escaping the collar. Many dogs have heads the same size or smaller than their necks, and with a regular collar, they may be able to back up and slip out. With a martingale collar, when this happens, the collar tightens and prevents the dog from slipping its head through.

Proper Sizing Our martingale collars are measured fully extended. When measuring your dog's neck, please ensure you press down through the fur to get an accurate measurement, as most people do not do this, leading to over-measurement and ordering an incorrectly large size. When the collar is on your dog, the metal rings at the ends should not touch, and the nylon portion attached to the D-ring should be extended. If you pull on the D-ring and the collar does not tighten, it is too large and must be adjusted smaller.

Great for Training A martingale collar also tightens if the dog is pulling on a leash, allowing you to give slight corrections that the dog will respond to much better than with a regular collar.

Reflective Collar Effectiveness Many other collars use a thin line of reflective stitching or tape that may peel off if the collar gets wet. Our chain martingale collar uses 2mm wide bands of reflective stitching around both edges, providing a large reflective surface area. Our chains are made with 304 Stainless Steel, though please note that even high-quality stainless steel may cause some dog's fur to darken.

Lockable Buckle Our buckles have a locking clasp that prevents accidental release when grabbing the collar, a feature preferred by many shelters and rescues.
